Hydrogen (H2) has become a popular choice for use in the industrial sector in recent decades, but the demand for it has increased and looks set to continue. With high demand for hydrogen comes a need for more reliable and readily available hydrogen gas detection systems. In this post, we will discuss how hydrogen gas is used, the importance of hydrogen gas detection and what options are available.

Why Is Hydrogen Gas Detection Becoming More Important?

Hydrogen gas is commonly used in industrial applications to produce different materials. These include being used as a carrier gas in electronics, working as a reagent in chemistry, and it also plays a vital role in the development of flat glass used for flat screens.

Additional uses include:

  • Produce clean and silent energy: Used for isolated places that do not have a connection to a power grid and therefore require a reliable backup energy system.
  • Added to fuel cells to produce electricity within an electric engine in ‘zero emission’ cars.
  • Liquid hydrogen is used as rocket fuel in the space industry.

Why Do We Need Hydrogen?

A key component in renewable energy, hydrogen can be produced by steam methane reforming (SMR), in which methane is heated with steam to create a combination of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and hydrogen. This mixture is then used as fuel.

The Importance of Hydrogen Gas Detectors

As hydrogen becomes an even more popular choice across industries, it is crucial that any gas leaks can be detected quickly to prevent dangerous conditions.
