While so many lives have been devasted by the human tragedy of Covid-19, our economies have also suffered under the universal trail of disruption brought by the pandemic. And yet some businesses, some business sectors have found a way to innovate their way through the crisis, learning how to adapt to survive, even thrive.
‘Covid unlocked’, a new three-part free webinar series, is to be launched next week (Thursday 15 April 2021, 12.30-13.30 GMT) by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), the world’s Chartered body for health and safety professionals.
The series will showcase how key business sectors have not only managed to continue to be successful over the past year or more but, in the words of the strapline devised for the webinar series, demonstrate ‘how fighting the virus today saw us innovate for tomorrow.’
Featuring and led by OSH professionals representing nine of the 18 IOSH sector groups, the webinars will help share experience, insights and innovations that will not only promote cross-sector learning but also demonstrate the extent to which health and safety professionals have helped keep businesses safe and their workers safer over twelve or more turbulent months.
Next week’s opening session will profile innovation through Covid in the Food and Drink, Construction and Logistics and Retail sectors. A three-strong panel will be led by Craig Foyle, Chair of the IOSH Food and Drink Industries Group, who will be joined by Malcolm Shiels, who Chairs the IOSH Construction Group and Trinidad and Tobago based Ria Sooknarine, a member of the IOSH Logistics and Retail Group, who also represents the Institution’s Caribbean Branch.
The ‘Covid unlocked’ series will feature further representatives of relevant IOSH sector groups with the second webinar, in May, focusing on Hazardous Industries, Rural Industries and Offshore. The final part, in June, will look to involve Education, Healthcare and other public services.
“I’m delighted to help launch this series of webinars showcasing the expertise and recent, real-life experience of fellow IOSH members and OSH professionals working in a wide range of sectors,” said Craig Foyle, a Chartered Fellow of IOSH.
“With the emphasis placed very much on sharing new thinking and new ways of doing things, I’ll be joined by two highly respected OSH practitioners in Malcolm and Ria to consider thought-provoking aspects of our respective Covid experiences.
“Hopefully there’ll be much to come out of our discussion that will resonate with and inspire our fellow OSH professionals to find their own confident ways forward into a world beyond Covid,” he added.
The first of these three free webinars will run from 12:30-13:30 GMT (13:30-14:30 CET) on Thursday 15 April and is open to all who register here on the IOSH website.
