The chance to pick up new ideas and network with fellow professionals make the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health’s (IOSH) annual conference a “not to be missed” event.
Speakers from an array of industries share their knowledge and experience at IOSH 2017.
The conference, which has a theme of ‘transforming health and safety across the world’, is aimed at people from a variety of backgrounds, not just health and safety professionals.
Ahead of the conference, IOSH spoke with some of those speakers, asking them why people should attend.
Lawrence Waterman, Managing Partner at Park Health and Safety and a former IOSH President, said: “You meet with old friends and make news ones and you hear such stimulating ideas which you take back to your own workplace. In my opinion, the IOSH conference is not to be missed.”
John Huckstepp, Director of A Blank Canvas, said there will be many benefits to attending IOSH 2017.
He said: “Firstly, it’s about the opportunity to learn. Secondly, it’s about an opportunity to network with other people with different experiences from different industries.
“Thirdly, it’s about the global topic. There’s so many things going on around the world at the moment that are all going to influence safety; now is exactly the right time for safety professionals to be bringing this topic together.”
Jamie Sutherland-Pownall, Occupational Health and Safety Specialist at Sellafield Ltd, added: “Attending IOSH 2017 is really about getting the global health and safety community together, sharing experiences, sharing knowledge, sharing the things they are trying to change in their workplaces and going back to our own organisations to discuss and try to influence change to make a better, healthier, safer workplace.”
Melaney Doyle, Director of MPower People Development Ltd, stressed that the conference is not just for health and safety professionals.
She said: “It’s for anybody with a vested interest in health and safety. It’s hugely important that you get your health and safety strategy right.
“If you attend IOSH this year you will take back with you a huge amount of information that you can disseminate positively in your organisations.”
IOSH 2017 will be held at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Birmingham, UK, from 20-21 November. For the first time, IOSH is organising every aspect of its flagship conference.
It has acquired former Paralympian Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson as keynote speaker, while broadcaster Cathy Newman will be its chair.
An early bird ticket price is available for those who book their conference passes before midnight on 14 August, while IOSH has also introduced a range of new ticket deals including special rates for full-time students and apprentices.
Online bookings can be made at www.ioshconference.com. For general conference enquiries email [email protected], or call +44 (0)116 257 3129.
