Cement is the core component of concrete, and with the increased demand for more construction worldwide, there is a higher need for the most popular building material: concrete. During cement and concrete production, gases are produced that could harm humans and the wider environment; therefore, gas detection solutions are required for safety and monitoring purposes.

Gas Detection Solutions For Cement Production

Why is Gas Emitted in Cement Production?

It is estimated that between 4 and 8% of the world’s carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions come from cement production. This occurs in two ways. To produce one of the critical components in cement, lime (CaO), fossil fuels are burnt to heat a rotary kiln, and within it, the process of converting limestone (CaCO3)  to lime takes place. The limestone conversion process and the burning of fossil fuels emit large amounts of CO2.

Why are Gas Detection Solutions Needed in Cement Production?

The various processes in cement plants result in toxic emissions being released into the environment and producing a high amount of CO2 and other gases. Thus making it necessary to have gas detectors installed. Gas detection systems can identify and monitor leaks at both low and high levels and allow plant managers to monitor emissions for the safety of the employees and the company.

What Gas Detection Solutions Should I Consider?

At International Gas Detectors, we manufacture gas detection solutions for various gases, including carbon dioxide, oxygen and silane. We supply both fixed gas detection systems and can also offer portable gas detectors if you are unsure of which detector is more suitable for you, please don’t hesitate to contact us, and we will be happy to advise you.

For the detection of carbon dioxide and many other gases, some of our products are outlined below:

TOC-750S Addressable Aspirated / Sampling Gas Detector

The TOC-750S is the ideal gas detection solution for difficult to access areas. Featuring IGDs unique piezo pump technology, providing gas detection with virtually no moving parts. Not only does this make the 750S virtually silent in operation, but it also reduces maintenance requirements and provides near continuous gas detection up to 20m away. All of this is available in over 300 different gas sensor types.

iGAS Portable CO2 Detector

Durable, reliable and compact, the iGAS CO2 portable detector is the perfect companion in CO2 environments. With NDIR technology, the iGAS sensor can last up to 7 years without the need for replacement. Making it the perfect, low cost solution for personal CO2 gas protection. The iGAS comes equipped with a micro USB port allowing for charging on-the-go, allowing for easy and convenient charging.

Although gas detectors are a crucial piece of equipment, to further reduce the likelihood of gas leaks, equipment and piping should be regularly maintained and upgraded as soon as necessary to avoid risks.
