Hohenstein Institute
When Prof. Otto Mecheels founded the independent Hohenstein Institute in Bönnigheim in 1946, his main priority was relating research and teaching directly to practical applications. His son, Prof. Jürgen Mecheels, built on what he had achieved, and expanded the Hohenstein Institute between 1962 and 1995 into an internationally reputed research and service centre with an outstanding range of expertise.
Since 1995, the institutes have been under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Stefan Mecheels, the third generation to run the family business, who has carried on the philosophy of the “unity of research, service and training” in his work. The positive development of the Hohenstein Institute up to the present day is testament to the success of this underlying principle. In Germany, a workforce of more than 300 are currently involved in excellent innovative work for the entire textile industry and related sectors. The Hohenstein Institute also operate several overseas agencies and subsidiaries, so that they can also provide textile manufacturers and their trading partners with optimal support on site.
The Hohenstein Institute offer manufacturers, retailers, service providers and consumers “competence from one single source”, covering a wide range of distinct, but closely linked fields of work. The result of this interdisciplinary approach is the successful cooperation with other research institutes from sectors such as medicine, electronics or microsystem technology. These networks open up totally new areas of application for textile products and thus provide the Hohenstein Institute’ clients with additional markets and opportunities for the future.
